A well-known, local entrepreneur has been awarded the City of Russell Springs’s first ever “Anchor” Award.
Last Tuesday, at the first council meeting of 2025, Chad Aaron was presented the award by Mayor Eddie Thomas.
“It’s called the ‘Russell Springs Anchor,’” he said. “It’s like when Gov. Beshear makes you a Colonel.”
“So, if you’ve done something in the City of Russell Springs, we want to show our appreciation to you.”
“We really appreciate Chad and what he’s done for the City of Russell Springs,” Thomas said. “He’s taken a lot of these old, dilapidated trailers and such…and turned (the property) into nice apartments complexes and duplexes. It doesn’t go unnoticed.”
“We really appreciate what he has done, and we wanted to make him the first honorary ‘Anchor” for the City of Russell Springs,” the mayor said.
Aaron was humbled by the honor.
“It means a lot,” he told the mayor and council. “I appreciate it.”
“We wanted to start this about three years ago,” Mayor Thomas said.
Russell Springs City Clerk Christopher Ramsey, “had said something about…so we got it to work on it.”
“This is the very first one we’ve ever given out,” the mayor said. “We’re going to try to give several of these out every year.”

At last week’s Russell Springs City Council meeting, Richard Roy, right, a retired employee of city, was honored for many years of service. Thomas, left, presented Roy with a special memento and words of praise.
