Local youth attends Sheriff’s Ranch

A local youth recently attended the KY Sheriff’s Boys & Girls Ranch.
Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston said he and his wife Hester “had the pleasure of taking Swoo Wright to the Ky Sheriff’s Boys & Girls Ranch at Gilbertsville near the Kentucky Dam.”
“We always enjoy taking kids over as they have fun learning and doing outdoor activities,” the sheriff said.
Deputy Bill Greer and his wife picked Swoo up and brought him home from the adventure.
Polston said he and his department is always eager to assist youth.
In its 50th year, Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys & Girls Ranch 50th camping season opened June 9.
Activities run through July 17.
The ranch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building self-esteem and teaching respect for oneself, others and law enforcement professionals, provides “a fun and memorable experience to boys and girls on alternating weeks.”
The camp is free for campers, thanks to the support of the sheriffs, members and contributors.
The cost of serving each child is approximately $500 per week.
Donations directly benefit the camp.
Camp activities include arts and crafts, nature, sports, swimming, fishing, archery and various enrichment programs such as leadership, drug awareness, fire prevention and horse appreciation.
Campers that attended the week of June 23rd are from Anderson, Boyd, Casey, Edmonson, Garrard, Graves, Grayson, Henderson, Livingston, Lyon, Ohio, Russell and Trigg Counties.
Executive Director Jerry Wagner expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported the camp over the years, emphasizing the importance of continued contributions to make a difference in children’s lives.
