FRANKFORT, Ky. (December 5, 2022) – Today, Treasurer Allison Ball announced she returned $150 million in unclaimed property, more than any other Kentucky State Treasurer in history, on Good Morning Kentuckiana. Treasurer Ball is a strong proponent of property rights and is committed to returning this money to the rightful owners, not the government. In her first term, she returned nearly $89 million, more than any previous Kentucky State Treasurer had done in one term. “I am excited to share the record-breaking news that I returned $150 million in unclaimed property,” Ball said. “Through my staff’s diligent effort, we were able to return this record amount and return money to the rightful owners.” The Kentucky State Treasury has approximately $800 million in unclaimed property. Amounts range from one penny to $733,497.93. Some claims are eligible for the fast-tracking process. When Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky were struck by natural disasters, the Kentucky State Treasury expedited claims to those areas to provide help.
