Fire guts residence
Staff Report
A two-story home in the southern part of the county was destroyed by a blaze, authorities said.
Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department (JVFD) Chief Jeff Landers said approximately 20 firefighters spent six hours fighting a blaze reported around 2 p.m. last Thursday on Sticks Rd.

Firefighters worked in shifts while battling a blaze for six hours last week.
Both the Jamestown and South Russell Volunteer Fire Departments (Stations 1 & 2), arrived on the scene off KY. 619 to find a structure “with heavy fire throughout,” the chief said.
Along with intense heat, firefighters encountered the presence of small propane tanks-one of which exploded.
Chief Landers said assistance was sought from the Russell Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and the Eli Volunteer Fire Department was “requested to move an engine to (the) Russell Springs station to help cover any other calls.”
In further strategic moves, the Russell County EMS was also contacted to be on standby, Landers said.
The Russell County Sheriff’s Office, South Kentucky RECC, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene.
The home, which reportedly belonged to Raymond and Marilyn Hannan, was destroyed.
“With every firefighter working as hard as they could, the house was still a total loss,” Landers lamented.
No injuries were reported during the blaze.
Karem George’s curiosity was piqued when he noticed “thick black smoke” in the area.
From a safe distance, he used his cell phone to document the early minutes of the blaze.
“It was very, very intense,” he said. “I really think they did all they could do to try to save it (the house).”
