City transforms to ‘Winter Wonderland’

A big event takes big planning, Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas said.

That planning will pay off for the annual Russell Springs Christmas Parade and Christmas Lights at the City Park.

The parade, a popular, annual event, will roll down Main St. in Russell Springs this Saturday, November 30th, at 5 p.m.

“This year’s theme is ‘Winter Wonderland,’ ” Thomas said. “If you see the end of Main St. you’ll get a little taste of what it’s going to look like. They’ve got the little park all lit up, and you can see it.”

The parade promises old favorites such as floats, classic vehicles, brief performances from local talent, and always a few surprises.

Following the parade, Lights at the Park will be illuminated and open to the public.

The end of Main St. in Russell Springs provides a peek at what the Russell Springs Christmas Parade and Lights at the Park will be like come this weekend, and throughout the holiday season.

Since it’s inception, the drive-thru Christmas lights display has draws thousands of spectators from across the area.

The fun, festive, family display is free, but donations are accepted.

Mayor Thomas said both the parade and Lights at the Park are gifts to the entire area, and he appreciates the work put into the events.

“The guys have been working hard over at the park and down here on Main St.,” he said. “These are things people really enjoy, and we’re glad to be able to do them.”

New additions to this year’s festivities include a recently-installed sound system on Main St.

The new amenity will allow for announcements to be made, music to be played, and will provide a holiday ambience for those attending.

Anyone with questions about the “Winter Wonderland” parade can contact Russell Springs City Clerk Christopher Ramsey at (270) 866-3981.
