The Russell County Extension Homemakers celebrated another year on June 9 at their Annual Meeting.

The venue this year was the Russell County Library, and the theme was “Heritage Days.”

Members contributed antiques, photos and family treasures to decorate for the event which celebrated Russell County’s past.

The decorations included an original quilt which was made several years ago by the Homemaker Clubs-depicting Russell County attractions and historical sites.

Other decorations were butter churns, oil lamps and other items from by-gone eras.

Dinner tables were decorated with lights strung the length of the tables clipped with photos of Russell County through the years.

The members enjoyed an amazing presentation by Donnie Wilkerson titled, “For the Joy” which covered a wide variety of uplifting topics.

This was followed by the meeting which included recognizing out-going officers: Sue Foley, president and Donna Robertson, secretary.

New Officers inducted: President Pat Dennison and Secretary Cindy Mills.

Homemakers Area President Mary Lynn Chaudoin, center, installed new local President Pat Dennison, left, and Secretary Cindy Mills, right.

Additionally, recognition was given to the Russell County scholarship recipient, Jaylee Roy, and Homemaker members with five, 10, 15 and 25 years of participation, and to several members for their community service in 2023-2024, which collectively totaled 4,183 hours.

The Russell County Extension Homemakers new year began July 1.

Dues remain at $12 per year–which includes a newsletter each month, opportunities to participate in community service projects, numerous activities with Homemaker clubs and activities coordinated by FCS Agent Megan Gullett.

Currently there are four clubs: Crafty Bees, Homemakers on the Go, Piecemakers Quilt Guild and Sunset Club.
