Cheryl was the beloved daughter of Nellie Mershon and the late Charles Mershon and father Edward E. Gosser (Gosser Ridge – Russell Co.) She shared a close bond with her siblings—LaDonna Williams, Brent Mershon (Dee), Kent Mershon (Adelaida), and the late Tracey Mershon. Her fierce love and loyalty to family extended into every corner of her life.
She was married to Greg Brooks on September 15, 1984, with whom she built a life centered on love and family. Together they raised two daughters, Kristen Flood (Casey) and LaDonna Carlton (Ryan), who were the joy of Cheryl’s heart. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense happiness; she cherished every moment spent with Allie, Josiah, Madelyn, and Hezekiah Flood.
Cheryl’s life was defined by her care for those around her—a care that flowed from her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. She served faithfully within her church community and was known for her steadfast commitment to prayer. Her loyalty knew no bounds; to Cheryl, those she loved could do no wrong.
Cheryl enjoyed quilting and crafting. It was just another way to comfort those she loved- sending a crafted gift or a beautiful quilt. She loved traveling to the beach, where she enjoyed the warmth of the sunshine and a good book by the poolside. But above all else, she treasured spending quality time with her grandchildren. These moments were sacred to Cheryl—filled with laughter, joy, and unconditional love.
The legacy of her love remains deeply rooted in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and strength to all who were blessed by her. Funeral services were held on October 4, 2025, in Greenfield, Indiana.
