One of Russell County’s oldest and beloved citizens was surrounded by family, friends and well-wishers this past weekend as she celebrated a milestone birthday.

Ann Conover turned 101 on Wednesday, December 3.

On Saturday, just prior to the centenarian’s special day, a celebration was held for her at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown.

Barbara Beard, right, greeted her mother, Ann Conover, left, at a birthday celebration on Saturday.

“Not many people reach that age,” daughter in law Elaine Conover said, “so we wanted to all get together and have a cake for her.”

One by one, and group by group, visitors filed in to present gifts and visit with the celebrated matriarch.

“She’s a special lady,” son Blaine Conover said.

Born December 3, 1924, to Tim and Kit Cravens, Ann married L.B. Conover (ironically on December 3, 1946) and had five children: Barbara Beard, Bruce Conover, Brad Conover, Beryl Conover, and Blaine Conover.

Ann proudly dotes over 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and has one, great-great-grandchild due to be born in February.
