Ballot positions established
A large crowd was on hand at the Russell County Courthouse last week for a ballot draw for the upcoming primary election.

There were a few light-hearted jokes and playful jabs, but when the time came, a crowd of candidates quietly watched a “ballot draw” last week at the Russell County Courthouse.
Russell County Clerk Patti Glover and staff conducted the event to determine in what positions candidates will appear on the ballot.
“I believe there was just a handful of people here the last time we did this,” Glover told those attending.
Election Clerk Penny Jones, assisted by Teresa Spaw, began the proceedings promptly at 2 p.m. last Thursday.
Candidates in the primary election will appear as follows:
