James “Jimmy” Edward Simpson, 81, Jamestown

James “Jimmy” Edward Simpson, of Jamestown, passed away on July 14, 2026, at his home, with his family by his side. He was 81 years of age.

Jimmy was born on September 24, 1944, in Shelby County, a son of the late Robert L. and Millie Mae Murphy Simpson. He proudly served in the US Army from 1968-1971 during the Vietnam War. Jimmy was in the Signal Corps, receiving the South Vietnamese Military Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal during his tour of duty. Once being honorably discharged from the US Army, he received a bachelor’s degree and was an industrial engineer. Jimmy would spend the next 25 years at Fishers Packing Company and another 10 years at Karems, until his retirement.

Jimmy was a member of GI Post 244 of the American Legion. He loved being with friends and family. Jimmy liked boating, fishing, gardening, and golfing. He enjoyed being at home, feeding and watching the deer.

Jimmy was known by many and made a lasting impact on those he met. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Myrna Scott Simpson, of Jamestown; his daughters, Carrie (Chris) Mann, of Louisville, and Leah (Dale) Parris, of Fisherville; four grandchildren, Dustin (Ally) Sweet, Connor (Bri) Mann, Cam (Tori) Sweet, and Caitlyn Mann; and seven great-grandchildren, Lilly, Simon, River, Eli, Mia, Weston, and Sophia.

Jimmy’s immediate family will have a private celebration of life.
